How to Fix Roblox Not Loading on PC, Android, and iOS

9 min read

Roblox not loading is almost always caused by one of four issues. These include corrupted temp files. A firewall or antivirus program may block the connection. A background process may be stuck. An update may fail and load the wrong version. Start with Fix 1 below, clearing temp files and killing background processes, which clears most stuck loading screens in under two minutes.

Why Roblox Gets Stuck in the First Place

Before any fix sticks, it helps to understand what’s actually failing. Roblox doesn’t load when it fails one of three internal handshakes: reading its own local stored files, establishing an outbound connection to its servers, or embedding correctly inside a browser window.

The most common failure point is temp files. Roblox saves session and cache data in two Windows folders. When those files get corrupted, usually after an interrupted update or a system crash, the app freezes at the loading spinner. It looks responsive. It isn’t going anywhere.

The next most common issue is a blocked network connection. Windows Firewall, your third-party antivirus tools and VPN clients can all quietly block Roblox from contacting its servers. Its images, but the app does not speak it and that’s how you got your mainboard edge frozen or error code 279.

Being able to identify what type of failure has happened is what lets you stop guessing and start fixing.

Fix 1: Kill Background Processes and Remove Temp Database Files

This resolves the most common reasons where Roblox does not load.

Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Play the process and look for anything named RobloxPlayerBeta or RobloxPlayerLauncher. To do this, you will need to right-click each one and press End Task. Don’t skip this step, a hung background process will actively prevent a new instance from loading.

Press windows key + R, Paste %temp% and Enter. Select everything (Ctrl+A) and delete. Ignore any file marked “in use by other apps” and delete the rest.

(Note: Open another Run window and enter: %localappdata%\Roblox. Delete everything inside this folder. It clears the corrupted session data Roblox was choking on.

Start Roblox over from the desktop shortcut, not via a browser tab. If it loads, you’re done.

Fix 2: Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings

Click on Change Settings, Find Roblox in the list and check both Private & Public The second solution is to disable security software such as Antivirus or Firewall that might be causing this issue. (If you don’t see it, click Allow Another App and locate the executable, typically found in %localappdata%\Roblox\Versions.

This should be done first if you have a third-party antivirus program — Norton, McAfee, Bitdefender and so on, which sometimes quarantines Roblox’s launcher without notifying you. Disable your antivirus and check if launching works. If Roblox pulls up, create it as a permanent exception instead of keeping the protection disable.

One thing you won’t find in many guides: VPNs produce exactly this same failure. Roblox’s anti-cheat refuses a large portion of VPN IP ranges in account verification, leading to silent connection failures that appear like a firewall block. Disable your VPN before launching.

Fix 3: Flush DNS and Reset Your Network

Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges — type cmd in the search box, then right-click it and select Run as administrator, and enter these commands one by one:

ipconfig / flushdns ipconfig / release ipconfig / renew

Outdated DNS records can cause Roblox targeting the wrong connection. The release and renew commands reset your IP lease. This fix takes 30 seconds and resolves more connection-based loading failures than most people expect.

Fix 4: Fix Browser Launch Loops and Administrator Execution

In this case, the browser is not detecting your existing Roblox launcher if it continuously prompts you to install it after doing so. Close the entire browser, not just the tab. B: Clear cache and cookies in the Privacy & Security settings. Reopen and try again.

If loop is cross-browser, delete the Roblox folder in %localappdata%, and do clean reinstall from roblox. com/download.

In addition, while you are still in Roblox Player shortcut properties visit the Compatibility tab and enable “Run this program as an administrator” and disable “Fullscreen optimizations.” Certain GPU and driver combinations that interactive with Roblox’s rendering path, cause white screen when person enabled fullscreen optimizations. Disabling it forces Roblox to use its own render pipeline.

Fix 5: Update or Revert Your GPU Driver

Next, open Device Manager (Windows Key + X → Device Manager). Right-click your GPU under Display Adapters, and choose Update Driver.

Here’s the counterintuitive bit: if you started having trouble with Roblox immediately after a recent driver update, then rolling back is actually what you want to do. Select Roll Back Driver from the same menu. Most users never think to connect a graphics driver update and a game suddenly refusing to load, but it’s a common culprit.

Fix 6: User Account and Versions Folder Test

%localappdata%\Roblox\Versions is where you’ll find numerous leftover folders from old updates. If a recent update broke partway through, Roblox may load an old broken version on the next startup. Standard reinstalls don’t always do so. Remove everything in the Versions folder and allow Roblox to clean install.

If Roblox loads correctly when you create a new Windows user account and log into it, then the problem is related to your profile, some sort of permissions conflict or registry entry associated with your main profile. This usually solves the problem in most of the cases as settings can often be exported from Windows and one can migrate to a new profile.

Fix 7: Android and iOS

Android: Open Settings, then Apps; find Roblox and tap Force Stop before clearing Cache and Data. Restart the device and relaunch.

iPhone: Delete the app, restart your device, then reinstall it from the App Store. iOS doesn’t have an independent way to clear a cache, so reinstalling it afresh is the cleanest route.

Both platforms let you check for pending OS updates. Roblox sometimes discontinues support for older OS versions, and when it does, the loading failure is manifest as a bug when in fact it’s a compatibility cutoff.

Pro Tips You Can’t Find Anywhere Else

From testing this on a lot of setups, there are a few non-obvious things that crop up frequently:

Roblox runs through a browser, which is significantly less stable than the Standalone Desktop app. If you’ve been launching from Chrome or Firefox out of habit, switching to the desktop app permanently eliminates an entire category of launch failures.

Windows 11 users with Secure Boot and TPM enabled sometimes see Roblox’s Hyperion anti-cheat trigger antivirus-like blocks. If you recently changed BIOS settings, reverting them and retesting is worth trying before anything else.

Always check status.roblox.com before spending time on local fixes. Server-side outages produce loading failures that look completely identical to local issues, and the status page takes ten seconds to check.

FAQ

Roblox loading screen getting stuck, why? Corrupt temp files, a preexisting Frozen Roblox process hanging in the background, or an outbound connection blocked by firewall are three of the most common causes. In the majority of cases, this can be fixed by clearing temp files in %temp% and %localappdata%\Roblox then killing background processes in Task Manager.

How to Delete Roblox Cache on Windows? Press Windows Key + R, enter %temp%, and remove all files there. Then navigate to %localappdata%\Roblox and delete the contents of that folder. This clears up any saved session and cache information.

What is Roblox error code 279? Roblox Error 279 means your game server can’t connect to the server. The fix is usually as simple as adding Roblox to your firewall exception list, ipconfig /flushdns and disabling any VPN.

Does a VPN prevent Roblox from loading? Yes. During account verification, many ranges of VPN IPs are blocked by Roblox’s anti-cheat system, which leads to silent connection failures. One of the first things you can try if error 279 pops up is disabling your VPN before launching.

My Roblox is not loading, how do I fix that on Android? Open Settings, then Apps, locate Roblox, press Force Stop and continue with Cache / Data clearance ferrament. Then restart the device and try reopening Roblox. Otherwise, give a lookout for pending Android OS updates.

Roblox not loading on iPhone: How to fix the issue? Delete the Roblox app, power down your iPhone and back on, then reinstall from the App Store. Since iOS does not natively give users the option to clear app caches, a complete reinstall is really the cleanest solution.

What to Do Right Now

Go through the fixes in sequence. Most cases are resolved by Fix 1. If using Fix 4 or later with no success, then it is probably a driver-specific issue, a Versions folder conflict, or profile-level permissions. Bookmark status.roblox.com for future reference, checking it takes ten seconds and can save you thirty minutes of troubleshooting a server outage.
